1985 GL1200 Carb. Rebuild

Did you do that, and if not were the O-rings still in good shape?

That would be a good time to replace those o-rings and gaskets since you would have full unrestricted access and the cost of the parts are relatively cheap. I will finish this thread with written instructions, from this point it should be easy to finish rebuilding your carbs.

I know I'm a little "late to the party" on this thread, but I wanted to just mention a few things, in no particular order:
Using copper wire to clear an emulsion tube is actually alright. I don't suggest doing this on jets, but it won't be a problem on emulsion tubes.
You don't need to keep the internal parts separated on GL1200 carburetors. They're all the same.
If you're using spray carb cleaner, move your slides far away. Even a small amount of carb cleaner on your diaphragms can ruin your whole day.

William it might be wise to separate the carbs to replace the seals. After all these years the original seals may have hardened and shrunk and they can seep fuel slightly leaving your bike with a faint odor of gasoline and a wastage of fuel. With Randakk's kit you get top quality Viton seals that will last a long time if you install them correctly so it might be worth the extra effort to install the complete kit when you have the carbs off your bike.

Just on the pilot screws but that's laid out in your manual according to the year of your bike. Make sure you oil the o-rings before you slip them into their bores or else you might cut them. Do not force anything, especially the float pins, work gently, it will all come apart and go together with gentle pressure.

Ok, thank you Vic, i will follow ur tips. we r going to rebuild first my friend's 1100 carbs ( we will train with those :mrgreen: ) and then mine Tongue

the air mixure screw, the one that is hidden and you must drill to remove a plug or something like that, should i check it? or it doesn't get lose by age?

I would drill and pull out the plugs on the air mixture screws William then you can set the carbs perfectly after the rebuild. Count the number of turns it takes to close each screw lightly and record this so you know where to put them upon reinstall.

Oddly enough, you're actually better off setting the pilot screws to the suggested setting found in the factory shop manual. I have no idea why, but the factory setting on 'virgin" carburetors can be way off. We've seen this many times.
