Conversion fit issues???

Magoo, my first attempt only gave me 13.5 at best. I replaced the crank pulley with a 5" and that sucker now gives me 14.1 at idle. I always have a green light on my volt meter.

the altenator doesn't seem to be charging at idle, it's only when I rev it up it goes to 13. I didn't have any 12 gauge wire for the exciter so I temp, used a lighter gauge wire would this make a difference? and what about the old stator wires can they be disconnected and the old rectifer bypassed. of the three pins where the plug goes on the back of the alternator do I have the exciter on the right one? and the big nut on the alternator that goes to the battery, right. after two days of putting on the kit and playing with the rad I guess I shouldn't have tried to wire it when I was tired.

Unless you use a larger pulley giving it a great RPM than one to one ratio you will not get 12 volts on idle, especially if your holding on to the brake lever causing the stop lights to activate.
Unless your participating in slow parades or such, this will not be of concern, also concidering the suggestion that to switch off the engine if your going to idle the engine for more than 10 seconds reduces fuel consumption. Personally I have enough trouble remembering to put the bike back in gear when I have put it in neutral let alone having to turn the thing back on again when the light turns green
I don't think the stock alternator produced 12 volts at idle with the brake on ( I could be wrong there)

If your using the external alternator I would suggest cutting the 3 yellow wires and insulating the ends coming from the alternator. I removed the regulator as well, It's not needed anyway.

Driving at 80-90 k my external voltage is 14.2 volts, with all my Christmas lights and spot lights and heated jacket at the same speed I get 13.6- 13.8, this is from a brand new alternator (not from the wreckers)
Maybe take your alternator to have it checked or even rebuilt if your concerned about the lower voltage. Where are you reading the voltage from? I am not taking my reading directly off the battery just a wire that provides juice to the air pump.
