alternator conversion issues

I am in the middle of a poor boy alt. conversion and have had couple of challenges so far. I started to put the radiator on and noticed the belt interferes with the plastic fan blades.Theres really no room to move the fan up or right so can the blades possibly be trimmed? I have a feeling that it would destroy the fan but has anyone tried it?I would really like to keep the fan behind the rad out of sight. Has anyone found a solution beside moving it to the front?

If you will look under "Updated Poorboy Installation Instructions" you will find a couple ways to get the fan clearance you need.

Thanks for the replies. I did cut the leg but I didn't think to bend the legs. I will look at it later when I get time. Thanks again.

Hi George,
I needed more room for my larger pulley so I just added some washers on the new lower mounts that Don supplies. That pushed the rad out a bit more forward and solved the problem. I think I used 6 washers on each side. Might work. |

I haven't had time to continue with this project but with the washer idea and bending the fan legs a little it should work. Thenks for all the help.

If you look closely you will see the fan motor is bolted to the frame. What I did with mine was remove the bolts and put washers in between the motor and the frame to tilt the fan blades. Only need a couple on the two bottom bolts.
