On the alternator, is the ignition terminal the same as the exciter

I think its working, my bike rebuild is now complete. testing directly from the alternator I was getting 16.9 volts, however the readout on the old voltmeter on the bike is shoing 13.5. I plan on hooking up a new meter, will let you know better numbers then. The important thing is that I drove it today, new paint, engine gaskets, new chrome. everything appears to be working well.
