possible parts bike
there is an 85 ltd for sale in my area and I am going to go see it tomorrow morning,
it has been sitting for 10 years plus, he told me that it was a strong runner when it was parked by a relative,
the owner passed away and the bike was passed on to him but the transfer papers were never done, so there is no registration.
I am going to go see this bike as a possible parts bike for mine.
he is asking $1200 for it, is that a reasonable price as it has not run for 10+ years?

does seem a bit high - if the bike is in good shape may be worth while - you can count on redoing the carburetors, replacing the tires and changing the timing belts at minimum, the gas tank may be iffy. These bikes are not good sitters..!!

seen the bike today, all the chrome is very rusty and the exhaust is shot.
I made him an offer but he wants to show it to a few more people first.
so time will tell.

Check with your DMV about obtaining a new title, even though the PO is dead. I faced a similiar situation here in Illinois on a boat title. The PO passed in 1996, so the DMV/DNR office required me to send a certified, registered, return receipt required, letter to the PO. Since he couldn't sign the receipt, it was returned to me by the post office stamped "Addressee Deceased". That unopened letter, plus the appropriate DMV/DNR forms and a check, got me a new title and registration in about 30 days.
