can i use an 84 ignnition on an 87

ok i have an 87 my pride and joy. now i have an 84 parts bike with a decent ignition switch. my ignition switch the power main is shot thanks to the po having way to much running right of it. can i just switch out the the two switches?

The parts breakdown I have list different part numbers for different years, but that might just be due to the different key sets for the different years. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in to help.
The light at the end of the tunnel is usually the headlamp of the oncoming train.

the 84 should work but considering that there was a recall on the original 84 switches i'd want to be sure which one you have,you might be better off fixing the problem area of the one you have now
exactly what area is the problem in?

the problem is the spot where the main power feed from the switch to c80 red wire to red wire on the ignnition side was either drilled out or the blade over heated melting the place where the blade was secured into the connector. this causes the bike to loose power if i hit a bump on the road. or at times turn.

you might want to use a posi-lock connector to connect them together,easy to use especially in an emergency,also use their posi-taps and their ato fuseholder on my mc
