Replacing HT leads

After the bike ran fine over the weekend it caught rain yesterday and coughed home on three cylinders. The shop is posting new spark plugs and is suggesting I spray the HT leads with silicone coating. If they're that bad I'd rather replace them.
How much of a job is that on a 1200? I seem to remember from the GL1000 that they're sealed to the coils and can't be replaced separately. I've only had the bike a few days and haven't got the workshop manual yet... Cheers, Ronald |

Check that the drain holes in between the plugs is clear.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

I had (have?) a similar issue on my 84 GL1200i; the engine would miss after washing or in heavy rain. I had checked the head drain holes, they were clear. I replaced the stock copper wires & resistor caps with 7mm automotive resistance wiring. Once trimmed to length, the wires had about the same total resistance; about 5000 to 7000 ohms. I believe the tighter boot fit to the spark plug will help in wet situations. Now the engine doesn't miss after washing, but I haven't been through a heavy rainstorm yet this year. I hope this solved that part of the problem too.
