85 gl1200
Won't start. Replace voltage regulator, and redid some wires and heat shrink. Turn key to acc, have radio and driving lights, turn to on, no reading on the dash, and radio and driving lights go out. Have checked back to regulator and have resistence. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,
Bruce

Sorry, its an asp. and the wire that was burnt was the r/w, which goes back to the regulator. Checked that and I have continuity.
Thanks

Since the dash is dark, the answer is no,nada, nothing. Even tried to see if jump would work, nope. Like I said, with key on ass, radio works. Turn key to on, no radio.

Will try the fuses, but have checked all and they appear to be good.

Sounds to me like an ignition switch problem. Might try taking it out and cleaning it

have you checked the main 30 amp fuse very closely, its possible that it has a fairline fracture that would pass enough current for the radio on accessory but not enough current with key on

If you mean the 30 amp fuse in the voltage regulator, its brand new, and so are the fuses. Is there another 30 amp fuse I should be looking at?

Are you talking about the fuses under the left side glove box? If that is where you mean, then no, but I will for sure.

check the connector at the starter solenoid very closely for connection problems
after that i'd start looking at the ignition switch circuit and connector C80

Thanks, I will look at this tomorrow morning. Do you know how to get the ignition switch out?

you can make checks at the C80 connector on outside of right fairing w/o pulling the ignition switch out
