oil weeping after rebuild

Hi folks,
I'm sure I have read about this somewhere but cant find it. I recently went in and removed the front cover, replaced the o rings, new water pump, gaskets etc. all back together, started the motor, and oil is coming from the weep hole, no sign of coolant though Obviously, one of the o rings around the pump, or shaft has failed somehow, any ideas of which o ring is likely to be the culprit, and is there any way I cam make sure they are right when I reinstall everything for the second time. thanks very much, Robbie

Next time be sure to lube those O rings prior to assembly so they can slide in correctly.
Hopefully you did not use the cheaper 'Made in India' pump from Saber Cycles because their seals are so thin they refused to seal for me needing three installs before it worked right replacing each seal one at a time with OEM, and then the shaft broke off inside the engine 6 months later.

Usually if it is an oil leak, it is the seal at the bearings or the crush washers allowing oil seepage.
If the O rings are damaged it is usually coolant that is leaking. I usually lube the O rings with Lard Green being oil.....Blue being water.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

thanks for all the answers guys, the water pump is OEM and seals came from Venco wings which I use in another 1200 which worked just fine.
tricky you done it again, thank you very much, I found no crush washers on three bolts holding the pump, so assumed that none was needed, and of course they came with the kit, so there is the problem. as always I really appreciate the help. cheers, Robby

I have to assume the weep hole is behind the front cover, behind the water pump, not where the impeller is located.
If this is a correct assumption, when the cover is removed there are two sets of passages, one is for water and is sealed with orings, and the other is for oil and is also sealed. Is it possible that the water pump is functioning properly and the front cover water passages are sealed properly, but the oil passages behind the front cover did not seal and the oil is making its way to the lowest spot of the cover which may be the weep hole? Just a thought in the dark. Good Luck.
enjoying the view from the saddle....... due mainly to the people and information found within this site
