Mileage Per Tank
How many miles or kilometers is everyone getting from a tank of gas
from their 1200's ?

I would be pressed to get 300 klms from a tank. Some folks I ride with
who have 1800 wings or a Kawasaki Voyager XII are getting much more
from a tank 350 - 450 klms per tank. So I have to fill up much more often
than they do while on rides. What would be normal to expect ?

Thanks
Jim

depending on terrain and speed i can normally get about 300 kms w/o biting my nails too much,we usually stop about every 200-250 kms or sooner just for gas or drinks

just because they can do it doesn't mean anything, just remind them that while they are still making payments yours is paid for and you could have bought a couple spares

About 300km here too. I'm showing 272 on this tank and taking a ride tomorrow with a gas can in the pannier - going to run it empty and see how far it goes, and whether the flashing-last-bar and low-fuel light work. The 1200 has a pretty small tank at 22 Litres.

Earlier this week riding at 110km (68miles) to 120km (75miles) per hour I travelled 289km on 18.7 litres and 300km on 19.5 litres later the same day using Shell VPower. This ciphers out to 15.4km/litre or 36.43miles/US gal or 43.8miles/Imp gal economy. Range would be 338km/211miles to empty on 22 litres tank. My low fuel light is on solid at about 18 litres consumed.

When I ride with a certain GL1800 the 1800 does the same or slightly better fuel economy especially if it is windy. We think it is due to the 1800 having better aero design and fuel injection divided by the extra cc's into the sqaure root of the extra mass :d . The Triumph triples in the family do 20% better economy easy, and leave us in the dust on the twisty bits.

Two up, riding highway speeds (110 kph / 68 mph), I get 325 to 350 km / 200 to 215 miles per tank.

With my LTD I was looking for gas at around 210 miles....

Not to rub it in, but my ST will go 300 miles on a tank! :d

OK I learned some things today.

First, my low fuel indicators (flashing last bar/low fuel light) don't work at all!
Second, my bike will do 308km before running completely dry....
Third, my battery is good for about 20 seconds of cranking before it's completely dead...
Fourth, you can jump start a GL from your wife's Volvo once she comes to the rescue!

So I need a new battery (I know mine is charging fine, it just doesn't have much capacity any more). And I need to fix my low fuel sensor - I suppose it acts to operate the flashing-last-bar in the fuel gauge.

While by the sound of it 300klms to a tank is not out of order for these bikes !

On our Aspy there is a low fuel lamp that comes on at about 4 litres remaining...I've operated down to 2 litres remaining and haven't seen a flashing last bar on the fuel "guage" - but the red light comes on, generally after you ride by the last gas pump for 38km...

It all depends on how I ride. If it's all highway and I keep it under about 60-65, I can get well over 200 miles (320 km) on a tank. All around town, dodging traffic, I get about 125 miles (200 km) on a tank.

I will second what garyft said – I am averaging 40 m/g

I wanted to verify my low fuel light was working so I removed the sending unit from the gas tank and cleaned the terminals and the low fuel probe.
Testing involved using alligator clips to ground the sending unit to the negative battery post and operating the sending units float through its full travel.
For safety reasons, I stuffed a rag in the hole in the tank where the sending unit was attached and did all the work in a well ventilated area outside.
The low fuel light now functions as it should. (nice to be able to just glance and know instead of the old school (no gauge) math-in-your-head method.)
Running the bike low on fuel causes the engine to sound like it is misfiring and is lacking its usual throttle response.

And of course you have undoubtedly read it here, change the air filter, even if ‘it looks good’, keep the plugs gapped within their suggested window and synch those carbs.

I have been getting a consistant 48-49 MPG on my '85 Aspy. Of course this is riding alone. But , I contribute it to using ATF in every tank and running Seafoam once a month. Confusedhock:
