my radio works fine but the tape deck will not work

i can hear the tape chirping kinda and it rewinds ff but will not play radio is fine all looks new inside and outside. thinking about switching over to modern radio with cd anyone swap one out yet?

It would probably be more costly than fixing the original.

Possibly the band is slipping you could try to repair/replace it or talk to

They are a company that fix the original radios/cb's etc

I was going to do a swap and found ti was to involved. my radio works fine as does my intercom. I just added a 12 disk player in the saddlebag. workss through the FM with a remote control. i guess im a old schooler i like the cassettes. i conacted three stores to fix mine i will post the results thanks

Try this. I have an 84 Aspencade and my cassette deck also stopped working, exhibited the same symptoms. Pull the radio unit from the dash and take out the small screws that hold the top cover of the radio on. Gently pry the cover off and inside you will see the inside of the cassette area. To the left is an electric solenoid that engages when the cassette is activated and it moves a lever that pushes the tape head tight into the tape. I will bet that it's just like mine, it doesn't activate anymore. I put a tiny piece of cardboard in front of the lever where it is hooked to the solenoid and it pushes the tape head in constantly against the tape. Now the tapes work fine. They still insert and eject with no problems but I don't leave them in any long length of time as it could stretch the tape and cause more problems. I think that will solve your lack of tunes.

hey mike, no trying to sound smart (because same thing happened to me),but did you push volume button in? that turned my tape deck on :oops:

I use an i-Pod with a cassette tape converter to play through the stereo, works great......
My friend uses an i-Pod with an FM-Modulator to play through the stereo. Modern miracles have provided many new avenues to pursue.
