rectifier/regulator help

:-\ some help please--is the rectifier/regulator near the battery just to right of it behind fuel pump part #KNO7 MG9-A? No plug in wires. Or on the rear fender-Nippondenso with cooling fins? This has plug in wires. And any replacement parts available? :YMPRAY: ~O) ~O)
Stator starts out cold at 14.1 volts and gets erratic after warming up, 13.8 to12.5 or so, you posted about this in an earlier forum subject and it makes sense, hopefuly I haven't burned the stator out yet. GEO. |

this problem is a normal problem with the ltd/sei's due to the fact that the stator is larger on the sei/ltd's
the regulator is located underneath the false tank,left hand side near the rear part of the left pocket repair normally involves cutting off the affected connectors ,hardwiring,soldering and heat shrinking wires that were once in the connectors,also necessary to to hardwiring the stator connector(3 yellow wires) located just left of the battery also advisable is to replace the dogbone fuses (2) used on the ltd/sei's with 30 amp ato auto fuseholders reason why the sei/ltd's are more failure prone in these areas is the fact that the stator provides 500 watts(approx 35a) whereas the aspy only supplies 300watts(21a) thru the regulator connectors,more power more heat thru connectors that are essentially the same as ones used on the aspy normal voltage at startup and subsequent low voltage after warmup are a sure sign of a connector problem

I had to replace my Regulator/rectifier earlier this year, it has 2 plugs on it where the the Interstate and Aspencade only have 1 plug.
I have a link to a supplier if you need it. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/1985-Honda-GL1200L-GL-1200L-Limited-Edition-Regulator-Rectifier">http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catal ... -Rectifier</a><!-- m --> hope this helps.. ^ ![]() ![]()

his regulator is good,it appears that he will probably find that the connectors are toast once he figures how to get the tank off tommorrow

My LTD did the same thing as yours. Very common with these bikes. Follow NEO's instructions to a T!!! All my connectors were burnt exactly were he says they are. Hopefully your battery and stator will be ok....

Turns out the problem is probably with the stator wires where they plug in. Hopeing to fix it tomorrow. ~O) ~O) ~O) |

Does anyone have the schematic for the two plugs going to the rectifier/regulator?
A few years back I followed Neoracer's advice and soldered all connections. My charging system quit, and my stator checked out good, and rectifier/regulator didn't. I went to Rick's Motorsport Electrics to order a new one and they had two options; OEM and a Hot Shot rectifier/regulator. (Hot Shot Honda Rectifier-Regulator: Designed with Mosfet Technology; a cooler running rectifier-regulator.) I ordered the Hot Shot, but when I went to install it today, it doesn't have as many wires coming from it. And since I don't have the female plug any longer, I don't know what wires to solder together. (OEM has the 3 yellow, 2 green, 2 red, and one black. Hot shot has 3 yellow, 2 red and 2 black). I'll call Rick's tomorrow, but was hoping to do this today. Thanks Philroy |

Some later model rectifiers don't use the black signal wire for voltage sensing. It's built into the rectifier using the red wires. I suspect your wiring should go...three yellows to stator, two red to battery and the two black wires are most likely the ground wires that would have been green using Honda wiring codes. The black sensing wire from the main harness is no longer used. Best guess.

Note that he said "Best guess".
If you release the magic smoke that's not on his DIME as he included the disclaimer.

Here is a picture from the 85 LTD electrical troubleshooting manual.
Hope it helps

Rick's Electric responded to me, and here was their reply; The pin-out on our 10-119H is as follows: 3 yellow -> AC wires (no order to them) 2 red -> batt. + 2 black -> batt. – Unfortunately, it doesn't. With the new rec/reg hooked up to all wires EXCEPT the blk/lt green wire, I have 13.5 volts at idle. I have emailed them back and hope to receive an answer tomorrow. |

Probably not, but I still have one wire not connected to anything, and not sure where to connect it. |
