Upper Rear Tail/Brake Lights
Ok, I'm pretty sure I made a broke something, and hoping it's just one something.

It had been awhile since I had cleaned the connectors that connect the stator to the regulator so tonight seemed like a good night. It all seemed to go well but as I was running the bike to check the volts and such my 10 year old son was staring at the back of the bike. He wanted to know why half of them were not lighting.

The lighting across the trunk fo the bike is totally dark. The bottom lights are working exactly as advertised.

What is also not working is the brake light when I use the hand brake. The brake light works for the foot brake.

I'm hoping for some commonality between the two issues. My wife thinks that if my trunk lights had been out for a while, she would have noticed as I pull out the driveway to head to work.

Fuses check good, but couldn't find a fuse that just affected the trunk lights and not the lower lights.

Not really afraid to get in there and do the work, but was hoping someone could give a good starting point, other than chasing wires starting at the trunk..

Thanks!!

since its such an easy job to do just pull the trunklite assembly and most likely replace the bulbs,if you need new bulbs use # 2057's instead of 1157's,they are just a little bit brighter

The trunk lights are fed by the 3 pin connector under the seat on the right side.
No there is no commonality between the hand brake not working and losing the lighting in the trunk.
Under the hand brake you will see a small switch pull the connectors off and short them with a jumper wire, the brake lights then should work the same as the foot brake. If that works then you may need a new switch.
Using an ohm meter check if the switch is working, you may be able to hear it clicking as you pull the lever.

Then as the previous post says check the bulbs

for trunk
Green/Yellow = brake
Brown = lights
Green = Ground

The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Thanks for the replies. The culprit turned out to be the 3 pin connector under the rear seat, thanks Tricky! While I was there I went ahead and changed out the old bulbs for the slightly brighter variants.
