Seeking the most expensive part ever - Left Side Cover
I have seen several right side covers for the 85 LTD but only found one left side on ebay, i bid for it would have won bid if not for the fact i couldn't remember my log in info. Mine fell off and was run over. why does it appear to be the left side are the ones to fall off most.

I think it is because the left side comes off more often to access the battery..

Because of the battery and extra wiring there, it takes more tries to "feel" the pegs of the cover into the rubber grommets so they probably wear out (get enlarged) faster on the left than on the right. With enlarged rubber grommets, the left panel is looser than on the right.

To be sure, attach tethers so as not to loose the panels.

There were two things I did to help minimize the loss of the left cover. Before I had the opportunity to replace the rubber grommets, I wrapped each tip with duct tape.

TETHERS!,TETHERS!,TETHERS! Remember folf, You don't need to spend any amts of money. Everyone had somekind of large twist ties in thier kitchen drawers. But those nylon zip ties work really great. I am making mine out of 1/8" SS braided wire with the pull apart keychain barrels attached so I can remove the cover if need be. I did a security job @ a gov building that was having some "shade clouds" installed & got all the material tha I'll need. I will know next year (early) if I am going to make a big bunch to give to members of his forum & other 1200 owners. These forums have given me a heck of a lot & I want to give back. I need to find a supplier to get those keychains cheap. If the dollar stores can sell them for a buck, I should be able to find a supplier to but wholesale for 10-50/buck. This is what I am trying to find just now. Angela :d :d :d :d :d :YMHUG:

Wow! By recent standards that's an incredible bargain.

Winged Deperados are evidently still forking over $175 to $400 Confusedhock: Confusedhock: Confusedhock: Confusedhock: for dealers willing to accept their money. $-) At least one dealer justifies the scalping by writing: " ... consider this...you find a cover that is not your color, for $150.00. You bring it to the local paint shop to get it painted. Chances are, you will pay from $100.00 to $200.00 for this service, as any good paint shop knows that this little cover is not simple, nor easy to paint. Worst of all the final colors may not even match your bike...if we have your color it's while worth the price." @-)

Well it seems that the solution to the age old problem may be solved if the CAD files can or have been found.

I have located a company that is willing to make aftermarket parts for us... If we can locate the cad files for the part!

So.... Does anyone happen to have a 3D scanner in their garage?
