Carburetor Overhaul

Well H*ll.......
I got 'er done.........whew I had to pull the carb assembly off of the motorcycle twice. And I was sure that I had been very meticulous the first time. When you think you have the idle circuit (pilot screws and all pilot passages and slow jets) cleaned out and clear, do it again anyway. I used some carb cleaner pressurized, and made sure a flow was going through all the small passages. Then I forced pressurized air through all the same passages. I had trouble with #3 when I started the bike after the first overhaul/cleaning. I pulled the plug wires off one at a time to isolate the offending carb / cylinder. I also checked all 4 cylinders for compression the second time around. Two cylinders are at 170# and two cylinders are at 175#. So I knew at that point it wasn't an engine problem. I did use the carb. repair master kits from Randakk's. I also installed new float valves and seats. I had two valve tips break off on the very tip because they were so brittle. I used float valves and seats that Randakk sent to me on my request. I initially set the pilot screws at 3 turns out from closed. The Honda repair manual calls for 3 1/2 turns. I recorded the initial factory settings before disassembly so I may try those settings. Anyway, I started it again this evening after the second cleaning. Immediately I could tell a difference. It was running on all 4 cylinders and smoother than it had in 3~4 years. It idles like it is supposed to. Tomorrow I will fine tune the pilot screw settings and synchronize everything with my Motion Pro manometer. And the new Motad stainless steel exhaust system sounds good. It's not loud, but has a low mellow tone to it. This had been a project on the carbs, but it's looking real good now.

Yes sir, it sure is. It was a very good feeling. It has been 3 or 4 years or more since the old bike has idled and run in the garage this good. I'm really looking forward to getting it out on the road tomorrow afternoon after I get all the fine tuning and syncing done.

I also got my carbs rebuilt kit fron Randakk a few months back. If I can describe it in one word: Quality. Everything fits perfectly. Once done tuning and sinc was like having a whole different bike. Enjoy your renewed wing!

Got all the fine tuning and carb syncing done.
OOOOhhhhhh....... this bike runs sssooooo good now. It hasn't run and responded this good in about 4 years or so. Carb syncing with my Motion Pro manometer setup was pretty easy. I have had this manometer for several years and this is the second time I have used it. I syncronized the carbs first....... Then I adjusted the pilot screws.....I started at 2 turns out from closed ..... Then I re-synced the carbs again...... Then I fined tuned on the pilot screws a little more.....I ended up at 2 1/2 turns out from closed with all the screws within about 1/4 turn of each other....... Then I finished up with a final fine tuning on the syncing ...... I was using two tachometers.... the instrument panel LCD tach, and a needle tach that I hooked up to the ignition circuit.
