I know it's not a 1200 but......

You know, one of the things I like most about our GL1200's is they still look like a motorcycle if that makes sense? Hear me out. When I decided that I was getting older and wanted to get a real comfy motorcycle like a Goldwing I started to notice that the wings I liked best appearence wise were these classic 1200's.
In my opinion they look more like a motorcycle than the newer ones. The newer ones are real nice don't get me wrong and have some nice features but, again, in my opinion they look more like oversized scooters with there pratically inclosed engines and such. I like theses 1200's because the majority of the engine is visable. So that's why I bought a 1200. Having said all that I do have to say that the 1995 1500 in the link below is pretty darn sharp. It still has some engine exposed and some "motorcycle" style. I ran across it on my local craigslist. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...&viewitem= -Matt- |

I looked at a 1991 GL1500 I really liked it and in gold like my 85 LTD. it would be my next choice but there is just something about these GL1200's that have an honest in your face motorcycle look. I don't like a Bike that screams plastic and tries to duplicate a car on 2 wheels. This is why Harley's are so popular they look like a motorcycle not a wannabe something else. I have a collector plate on my 85 and am proud of my bike,26 years old and still turns heads, but thats not why I have one, they just keep going and going like the energizer bunny when taken care of. I tour extensively every year and she always gets me there and back again, very dependable which is something when your 5000 miles from home. One day they will be in a museum somewhere but for now I will just keep riding and riding. \:d/ Robert |

Well said Robert. When I brought my bike home my 20 year old daughter said "Wow, that's a sweet bike!" I was really surprised to hear that from a "kid".

I, like you, and I suspect a large number of folks like to see the 'motor' of a motorcycle. It is our responsibility to educate the next generation. I have a 1975 Honda, CB750 Chopper which was built in the late 1970's, though old looking, turns many heads. My son shocked me the other day when he asked if my 1966 Harley-Davidson Sprint H would make it to the local High School and back. I told him it would, but THAT is not a daily driver. A Helix or similar would be a good daily driver. We will see. Keep the faith. ~O)

Yes sir! The best looking tour bike in my opinion is the 1200 wings they still look like like motorcycles. I rode a 1500 once and test drove an 1800. They ride nice and have lots of "toys" to play with. That AINT me folks. When I ride I prefer it to be me and the motorcycle. I have owned this 86 wing now for a month and just now found out the Channel selector switch dont work!!!! Heck I never turned it on till today. I will fix it so it's all working IF I ever sell it.

if i ciuld get some slightly lower handlebars, the rise in the seat moved back an inch, and a wider windshield my 1200 would fit me perfect. if my 1500 weighed as much as my 1200 it would be perfect

Have to agree with you the classic 1200's look great. the motor and and add more chrome. Gives it style. The new ones in my opion have way to much plastic covering everything.. GO 1200's

I seem to keep coming back to the 1200's also after having a gl1100, 85 LTD 2200A and coming VERY close to buying a GL1500A before buying the last '87GL1200A. Don't get me wrong either I most enjoy the 1200,s , however while at competition accessories in Springfield OH I did find myself drooling a little over a beautiful gold/silver 1800A.
The $14000 was a little pricey for having 56k mi. But looked like new. http://dayton.craigslist.org/mcd/2918789027.html
