Thanks for that post. I always wondered how they did delicate sandblasting and now I finally know.

Yes thanks for the tip! At work we rent a dry ice blaster for cleaning, this tip is something that I can afford.

Excellent.

Thank you.

If you're not into building your own soda blaster, Harbor Freight has a couple available.

$35.00 plus tax and another item to find space for, verses using stuff I already have in the garage for free, and takes up zero space?

Call me Mr cheap!

Another upside to using baking soda is that it's completely non toxic and environmentally safe, unlike most of the media used for blasting. It doesn't require a booth or any type of media recovery system.

We use a "solvent gun" with a large maybe 1/4" solvent pickup line that will pick up soda. We use an air pressure regulator for delicate work (carburetors etc.) instead of stinky solvents.

Another overlooked parts cleaner from the old school is immersing metal parts in boiling water and cooking them for a while. The Missus suggested I get my own pots... :d

Wives sure get a funny look on their faces when they come home and find us using their kitchens to work on our bike parts, don't they?

It was only $89 when I bought it. They've gone up since people discovered how well they work.

We use it in the driveway, then hose it down when we're done.

It works great on paint and such but doesn't touch rust. My kid was playing with it one day and took the paint off of a Coke can.
When he was done, it looked like it had been chrome plated.
A motorcycle is like a cast iron skillet, it mellows with age, wash it and you destroy years of seasoning!
