85 LTD stalls after going over a bump ?
Bought the bike a couple of weeks ago, which had only been started occasionaly but never ridden battery was hooked up to a tender. It had a bad stumble on take-off but thanks to the threads here ' fixed that problem, with a new fuel filter and cleaned the fuel strainer on the pump inlet.
The 2nd problem is it would stall or go into bucking bronco mode right after the back wheel would hit a manhole cover ?
Let it sit for 10 mins, start it and stall a few more times, park it , next day it's OK ?
The self diag. LED's display says it's the throttle sensor, and to check the PB's, but I need the adaptor to test it ? I'm guessing this adaptor isn't readily available to the public ? or I don't suppose one can be made .
Cheers Bob.

I'd start with taking the seat off and as much else that will allow you to reach wiring and connectors... Start the bike and begin wiggling wires until you can make it act up... Tap on the ignition area components and the throttle body area too... Quite often one can find the problem by do the above method...

Thanks Ed, going over the bump might have beeb coincidental, It just crapped out today all on it's own ? Taking it to Honda tomorrow.

It could be the ignition switch causing the problem.

Mine did this several times 2.5 years ago-- you know what it was---- the voltage regulator wire connection
I removed the connector and soldered it --- problem solved--- turns out it was a loose connection
hopefully yours is that easy

Just got a call from the Honda shop, the mechanic suspects it's the TPS, any suggestions as to where I might locate one ?

To check the TPS use an ohm meter on 2 of the connections, can't remember which 2 of the 3, but try each set of 2, inside the TPS and watch as you open and close the throttle. It should be a smooth sweep of the needle, analog meter, or smooth rise and fall in the numbers, digital meter. If the rise and fall is jumpy you need to replace the TPS. It is rare for a TPS to kill the engine as well as a voltage regulator malfunction but I suppose anything is possible.

Search this site for a replacement as the original TPS is no longer available.

thanks Vic, it's at the shop, and when they called they said it might be the TPS ? So I'll call them in the morning and see what's happening, if it's the TPS it'll be a good project and do it with the BEI seems the best way to go.

Just brought the bike home, the TPS wires were partly rubbed through, caused by the poor boy alternator. Mech. was able to solder them up andd fix the problem.
Appreciate all your help, sure learned a few things. Thanks again.

Glad you got it fixed. Will have to let Poorboy know of the problem so he can add extra instructions for LTD's and SEi's.

That would be great if you can do that, mech. suggested to get a belt about 1cm shorter.
Cheers Bob.

those of us with ltd's or sei's will definitely have to remember this potential problem when doing a poorboy conversion
