Ok, I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but, I have a ? about sync gauges..a couple of days ago I went to look at some nearly new take off parts from an 84 wing,I bought everything he had, very nice gentelman and a killer deal. He also gave me a new set of sync gauges..made by "Motion Pro". These are brand new unused and use Mercury; Has anyone heard of/used these gauges?
They are complete w/instrutions except for one small "plug", a really small white one w/ a very small hole, I'm thinking for venting?...Anyone? :?:

They are good, very accurate, just make sure that you don't rev the engine too high and suck the mercury into the engine. The vent is supposed to be open during testing, closed when not using them so you don't lose the mercury.

Thanks Vic, I have the instructions and it does warn about sudden throttle increases. The only thing I'm missing is one of the very small restrictors. I'm sure I can come up with something that will work. The vinyl tube hasn't even been cut yet.
It's nice to know these are accuate...good deal! :d

I just received the loner gauges. When opened the box I noticed the gauges are not in sync. One and two are pretty much on zero, but #3, and #4 are setting well below zero. The #3 gauge is sitting on 15"vac, and #4 is sitting on 12"vac.

I am going to pass on trying to use these gauges. I will ship them out to whoever is next on the list, or back to the owner. Someone let me know what to do.

Thanks anyway,
Tim

There may be a way to calibrate those gauges. Possibly why I had difficulty ... just not sure.

You should contact Morgan Carbtune morgan@carbtune.com and have them walk you through the cleaning/calibration process. These gauges are typically very reliable but if dirt or debris got into the tubes they will give you a hard time. The company will work with you on getting the gauges working properly again.

There are adjustment screws for each of the gauges, but these are too far out to adjust. I would recommend the original owner take these back for any major issues such as this. If they were mine, that would be different.

I do appreciate the opportunity to use them, but they are not working properly and more do more harm than good.

Thanks again,
Tim

Any news on these? I just completed the rebuild on the carbs and will be needing to sync soon. I think this is a great idea.
