Has anyone actually read bulletin#77723(valve train).I tried to find it different times and was not able to do it.I would really like to see what is in this one.I always figured Mother Honda new there was an oil supply problem to the cam followers causing that intermittant valve clatter that so many people had.

I couldn't find the actual bulletin either Chris but if my old memory serves me correctly I believe that the fix was to loosen the collars next to the rocker arms and use feeler gauges to space the collars equally on the rocker arm shaft then retighten the collars and the clacking would go away.

I tried that on my 84 and I know a few other guys that had the problem as well.Most of the ones I heard about were never able to cure it.Mine wasn't too bad as it might not do it for a month then it would do it 2 or 3 times in one day.It would only last a few seconds at a time,but was very annoying.I just have a feeling that Mother Honda knew a little more about it then they let on.I had heard from one Honda dealer that there was a design flaw in the anti-foaming chamber.I know a couple of guys that sold 84's because they couldn't get rid of it.Anyway thanks for the info Vic.

The suprising thing Chris is that with all of the 1200's I've been around I've never heard any of them with that problem, including my own bike.
I'm wondering if the noisy guys were just overfilling their bikes with oil and trying to blame someone else for their problems? Most guys don't realize the severe problems they can cause by overfilling their crankcases with oil and even if you tell them straight up they still don't believe you.

I'm with you on that Vic,but mine did it and I know it wasn't the oil I was using or overfilled.I used to do all the auto tranny's at the G.M. dealer that I worked at and believe me I know the problems that overfilling can cause.I had my doubts about centering the collars,but I did it anyway.Didn't make a difference.No better no worse.The ones I know of were 84's and seemed to be the R.H. head.It's surprising how many more of something you hear about when it happens to you.
The one guy had the valves shimmed(on the advice of a Wing Mech.)and the collars centered.Approx. $300 later he still had the same thing.This wasn't his first Wing but will probably be his last.He bought a Harley Dresser. This is why I wondered about the contents of the bulletin.I know we used to get bulletins at GM that the Gen. didn't want the public to see.Mother Honda could have changed something in the head for 85 and not told the public because they wouldn't want to start changing a bunch of heads under warranty for something that is not a safety issue.Anyways I glad your's doesn't do it because it was very annoying. P.S. I bought mine with 37k on it from the original owner ,who had it serviced at the dealer.

Please forgive the duh factor, Vic, but if I were to venture forth to the local Honda shop and ask for my ignition switch to be replaced under the appropriate Bulletin, are they bound to do so or would they just laugh and tell me to take a hike?

They would plug your serial number into their computer and if the ignition switch has never been replaced they would be legally obligated to replace it Ian because it is a safety item.
Call your dealer and ask them.
