Alternator
New here. Is anyone out there from the Windsor Ontario area and know where to get the alt conversion kit and know how to do it or know how to change the stater? Any help would be appreciated.

Open the tech center at the top left of this page and click on Poor Boy conversion alternators, there you will get the info you need.

This question is for Don or Trick or Vic. I have the original kit from Don with the 2" pulley. Can this pulley be used on the altenator. My Alt came with a V-pulley & I am about ready to get this conversion done but need a serpentine pulley for the alt. Thanks gentlemen. Ange :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :d :d :d :d

Yes it should be the same pulley that comes on the original alternators.

You will need an impact to jar the nut loose.

This one would be OK too, save the cutting, but require a new pulley for those wanting to use serpentine belts. Also by the looks of things, re-fabricating the brackets to account for the difference in the front mounting brackets.
I know I am quoting an older post but I just thought I would say that no mod is nessecary as the bracket goes on the oppisite side of the alt mount due to the offset. Oh & thanks Trick for your reply. That makes me feel better as I then don't have to buy yet another pulley.:YMHUG:

Although thinking again, there is a possibility that the pulley from poorboy has been machined out to the size of the crank bolt which might differ from that on the shaft on the alternator. If that is the case then a bushing would be required to adapt to the alternator shaft. The pulleys dont have a tapered hole from what I remember.......

I just tried a pulley that I had on an alternator I had lying around..... you might just need to bore out the hole, use a reamer not a drill.

The 2 3/8" pulleys in my early kits are replacement alternator pulleys. From what I remember most alternators shafts only came in 2 sizes, 17mm & 15mm. The holes are not tapered. I did not enlarge the hole, I made a bushing that fit the crank bolt. The larger pulley I'm using now has the correct hole size & spacing.

I have to take my alt into a shop to have it checked as iy has sat out in my store room for the past 4 years & I just want to be sure everything is ok also, I want settle an old argument as to the amperage. Thanks Don, I don't need a bottom pully just want to replace the V-pulley on the alt. If worst case senerio comes up I will put a 4" (I have) v-pulley on bottom. I would prefer to go with a serpintine but will use v-belt if I have to. I have no more money to spend on this mod. Thank you so much for your offer. Angela :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Well done cabinguy. Being the maintenance person one of these external alternators is kind of like being a Maytag repairman, you wait and wait for something to go wrong, but, it just doesn't seem to happen because they are so reliable. Down the road a bit check the belt tension and at around 50,000 miles pull the alternator and check the brushes, other than that just keep on riding.
