HowwwDee! My names Josh and I just scored a 1987 Aspencade for 2500. 20,000 miles, has sat for a year. Got a gas leak. Where do I start as far as maintenance and mechanics! Thank you all.

Obviously after the gas leak is addressed I would change all fluids and inspect any and all safety items but I would change the timing belt and water pump as soon as possible

Hi everyone.

This site and its members have provided so much incredible info for my ‘84 GL1200A restoration that I got busy with that and never registered.

So it was time.

Thanks to everyone for all your knowledge. The main reason I got a GL1200 is it is such a well documented bike and I’ve never met a jerk riding one.

Got my GL1200 six years ago after it had been in storage for 20 years. It had 12,000 Kms.

After doing all the usual things one does to an old storage bike, it runs like an oiled sewing machine. Sometimes I think I’m on an electric motorcycle due to almost no vibration (my other bike is a Kawasaki KLR650 - vibration is normal).

I live on the west coast of Canada so ride most of the year (mostly in the rain).

I look forward to helping anyone out with their repairs and going for a ride or two.

Very much looking forward to dig around this site for all sorts of info beginning with the alternator conversion.

Welcome to the forum. It used to be a lot more crowded here but there is still a lot of information.
I think a 84 Aspencade with only 69k miles on it is a good buy.
The alternator is the weak point of the GL1200. If the connectors are corroded, it will burn the alternator. I think you'll find a lot of info about it on this forum.
