ANTIFREEZE IN AIR INTAKE BOX?
Rebuild head and installed them on an 84 salvaged engine for my 84 Aspencade. After putting everything back together I had a hard time getting the engine to idle. Carbs were out of syn again; so I cranked one Friday after adjusting carbs;' and I got a loud backfire on the right side of the engine. I thought it was going to blow the exhaust pipes off. Anyway, I check the carbs and found one carb had no gas in the bowl at all; then I found antifreeze in "AIR INTAKE BOX". What does this mean? Is there a crack block or crack head somewhere? The heads were rebuilt by a qualified machine shop!

Likely the antifreeze came from the overflow bottle or its hose... Was there any antifreeze in the oil.??? If so, then possibly a cracked block or bad head gasket...

No antifreeze in the oil? That is what puzzles me! I pulled the carbs off the bike and cleaned the jets and bowl of the # 3 carb ( which had no fuel in the bowl). Which is one of the reasons the engine backfired. The other reason could be; the timing is off on the right head by one point???
In the future; after putting the carbs back on and redoing the timing doesn't work; then I guess I would have to remove the head from that side of the engine and check for any damage.??? Would you think water damage would have shown up in the exhaust system by now?

The last time this happen, (last year, with my original engine) there was plenty of antifreeze coming out of the engine. Especially, after the engine had finally got tune, and warm up and then I heard some noise and a clanging sound, and then the engine stop! It started up again by that was when it seized the engine. The next day there was a pool of antifreeze at the exhaust and header connection. You got any other suggestion of what could be going on?
