Pulley Tensioner Rebuild!!
|
|
|||
While changing my timing belts I found my pulley tensioners were throwing grease and were loose :cry: . I came across this thread how to rebuild the pulleys,......... http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum9/56720.html .... , I used his method and will be installing them soon!! There's several methods and I used the " Editor's Choice ", I was able to have the bolt heads turned down and the old pulley's removed from their bracket, I have connections 8) ,my Son!!! I choose to do this because the cost per pulley ranges from $70 and up and are always on backorder. My cost was just for the pulleys about $40. I put some picture in my alblum for you to see. When I have them on my bike I'll take some more!! Hope this will help some one!!! 8) Bob

That is a good fix, I do remember seeing it a while ago.

I believe you can use the same principle on a 1200. I'm not sure but I thought the pulleys are the same size, just the brackets are different but still a good fix. Later :YMPEACE: Bob

This is an old thread... but thought I'd respond to a comment/question...

Later : Bob As indicated in the document, all the pulleys are the same.... 1000/1100/1200/1500 only the backing plates are different.. in fact there are only two different backing plates (although there are more differences in looks)..

It's worthwhile bringing an older thread to life now and again. I remember seeing that and copied it into my folder for future use if needed.

Just wanted to let everyone Know I'm still using that tensioner conversion with no problems!! I'm in the process of changing out my thermostat, so I may go ahead and drop the radiator and pull the covers to see how everything is!! I'll report back on my findings!! Later Bob

Later BobWell it has been a few months, but I'm in the process of doing some tinkering on the bike which required pulling the radiator. So I pulled the T=Belt covers to check on the Tensioner Conversion. When the covers came off, there were NO signs of wear or any signs of belt debris!! Everything was pretty well clean as shown in the pictures below!! Enjoy :d , BOB
