AUTO VOLUME ADJUST
Thank, that helps.
Since I haven't gotten the headset set up yet, I've never been able to figure that button out.

OK, more questions.

There's the standard multi-pin plug. I'm assuming that's the plug that connects to the drivers headset cable.
I also have another connector, it's like an earphone plug. What's that one for, and am I correct about the multi-pin plug being the line for the headset?

I'm gonna have to replace the helmet side cable. When I bought the bike, that cable was broken at the connector. I got the distinct impression that someone got off the bike and forgot to unplug before they walked away.

You will need to send a pic of the earphone plug It might be something that the other owner installed.

Interesting Tricky, when I turn mine up all the way the muting of the radio is very much noticable when I press the mute button and when I turn it clockwise all the way the difference in volume when I press mute is barely noticable. I wonder if only mine does that or if all 84's are like that.

I wouldn't imagine that the 84 is different.
I have not been riding with a passenger for many years and I keep the mute button in the center.

I just went and tried mine with the speakers and the mute button never made any difference, so we put the headsets on and tried it with them, it now makes no difference there either so mine obviously doesn't work period. So maybe your right after all.

I have never used the headsets for music and I was going by memory of what use to happen, I never noticed it making any difference on the level of the speaker sound.

Maybe we can get some others to try their setups and report back.

I played with the mute without headsets, and it made no difference.
I don't yet have head sets, because I don't yet have a passenger and a need for them,
so I can't say about that part.

Initially, I had the same perspective as Tricky. Oooops, you goofed Vic! I thought I would wait until you got the parts, but what the heck, I like living dangerously.
Tricky's right. The small mute "knob" controls the level of headset muting when the driver and the rider are "conversating".
Even though the Aspy is down for headgaskets, I went out and put the battery in to test. The little knob makes no difference in speaker muting on my '86. It only works on my headsets.
Ian has an '84 with headsets, so I figure he'd be the one to clarify.
The mute "button" on the handlebars mutes the speakers as well as the headsets.

I'll have to trust you guys because my radio is out of the bike in storage and the radio hole cover is sealed in place with silicone. Why? In all the years I've had my Wing I've only listened to the radio a handful of times (even though it works fine) because I'd rather listen to the wind and the engine so I finally figured out why lug a few pounds of music around if I'm not going to listen to it. I do find the CB radio quite handy on group rides though. BTW GLHonda, anytime you or anyone else has better information than I do on any tech item please lay it out here because I will always prefer accurate information over offered information, besides I get to learn things that way.

We put on our headsets tonight and tried the mute again, and the mute control varies the amount of muting of the radio in the headsets when either the driver or passenger talk.
I wasn't sure if it was working or not as we never use the headsets for music, only for intercom.

It actually took a while to work probably because the knob has never been turned in years, I twisted it back and forth several times before it did work.
