Crankshaft Hitting Something - Help
Have 84 Aspencade - removed engine to check stator (did not change) and after engine reinstalled engine will not turn over. Took cam belts off and have all values closed & found - can not make complete rev with engine - one way has hard stop (hear crank hitting something - could be something else is hitting an object other than the crank) and other way soft stop - starts to become harder to turn as engine is rotated. Have any ideas what may be the problem?

Suspect something in the pan where crank hits it and comes to hard stop - other way crank slides over "what ever" and this starts to wedge crank against pan.

Have checked the head / pistons and see nothing nor does a magnet retrieve anything when placed in head via plug opening.

All ideas are welcome.

I assume you only removed the rear engine cover to inspect the rotor/stator and didn't go any deeper into the motor. I believe the starter drive chain has a guide and there is also a guide tab for the starter driven gear. If any of those items are loose or the starter chain has "jumped" out of position, that may create your symptoms. Did you remove the starter and then reinstall it later after replacing the rear cover or leave it in place?

If you went deeper than just rotor/stator inspection, what did you do? Just a few questions to get you going. Tell us more and Good Luck!!
