Timing Mark Inspection Cap?
Working on my belts. I think it would be a very easy process if I could figure out where the Timing Mark Inspection Cap is. I've been using the guide on this forum and downloaded a manual, neither show where the cap is. Any help locating this thing would be greatly appreciated, bike is apart in the garage on a nice day and I think I hear it crying to get out...

Top left side of the motor, just under the carb. It's a cap with a striaght slot in it.

I must be slow, I'm still not finding it. Could anybody put a little arrow on one of these showing me where to look?

(sorry, bad photo quality)
So do I have to remove my carbs to do this?

THIS CAN NOT BE AS HARD AS I'M MAKING IT!!! The knowledge that this should be obvious is only making it more frustrating. Last night I removed my radiator and belt covers so I could just run and grab belts this morning and have an easy change. I had NO IDEA I wouldn't be able to find this stinking thing!!!! I've been working on it for about 3 1/2 hours, just to try to find this cap that I KNOW should be obvious. I've removed the radiator, the covers, the spark plugs, the "tank" (cover), and front wheel (so I could replace the tire, unrelated) is there something else I need to pull off to get this thing right? I haven't heard anyone say you need to pull off the air filter. Carbs? I don't really want to, but I can. I WANT TO BE DONE WITH THIS!!!! If anyone has any pictures of where this stinking cap is, PLEASE share them with me. This "2 hour" project is now at about 4 and a half hours and I STILL DON'T HAVE THE BELTS OFF!!!

Just when hope was all but lost (hope of keeping my sanity) I found it! If anyone ends up browsing looking for this info at some point in the future (as I did today) It's back BEHIND the carb (not under as I read it to be) Go to the rear portion of the carb, stick a screwdriver back there and you'll hit somewhere in the vicinity. Words cannot describe...

I'll add it here since you had so much trouble. I knew I had posted a pic a while ago, but I had one heck of a time finding it....and it's my picture!

Too late for you, I know, but if you're lucky, the hair will grow back.

Sad state of affairs that was, but at least it's over. Got out tonight and gave it a whirl and it worked great. Plus, the mild ride through town helped lower my blood pressure.

Do have a light noise that I didn't notice before that I could only hear from the front of the bike. I think it was just poor alignment/tension on the alternator conversion after I remounted it.

Peace of mind after a job, well, done. The commas are there because no job that involves a rant on the internet can be considered "well done".
