Front Main Seal

I'm rebuilding the engine for my "back up" 84 GL1200I and having trouble finding the front crankshaft seal, #13 on the microfiche, Honda# 91201-MG9-005, 35 X 59 X 8. An order to http://www.cheapcycleparts.com came back as "unavailable". I believe they are basically Honda distributors as every part I have gotten from them in the past came with a Honda sticker in a sealed bag. Does anyone out there have a source for this seal? Thanks for any help you can offer! The snow is starting to melt in MN....

I've found several places that offer that seal. Most are out of country. Try this link http://www.speedsupplies.com
Always email before buying to confirm availability. |

Try these folks, http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/par ... Honda.aspx They have 2 versions of the seal on their list and both are the same size but may have a different configuration for the rubber part of the seal. They are located in Michigan.

Thanks for your prompt response! I'll give these guys a shout, I just hope that Mother Honda has not shut the valve on these 25 year old engines. If they have, we are basically resigned to NOS (new old stock) parts from scattered shops around the world or aftermarket vendors (unless this is a commonly used industrial shaft seal). I would really hate to pay $250 for a Versah (or equivalent) complete engine gasket set and not get what I really need for my engine.
Again, thanks for your help, the original front main seal was not leaking last riding season, but I don't think it is wise to reinstall the old one.

Well guys, from the response so far, the front main seal is no longer available from Mother Honda. Orders sent out so far have came back as "no longer available". I do have inquiries in with speedsupplies.com and babbitsonline.com, however, I suspect they are likely going back to Honda to fill the order. I may end up reinstalling the old front main seal in my refurbished engine, but that really goes against my grain. Does anyone know of an aftermarket source for the front main seal? Thanks for your help, dp.

Don't give up so easily, try different Honda dealers online. They might be anxious to get unused stock off their shelves. You really have to hunt hard.

No, I haven't given up on obtaining a front main seal. The 59mm OD seems to be the non-standard dimension, however, I have a lead on a very close inch dimensioned seal that may be currently available. I'll keep you posted on progress. Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi, I have been reading this site for a while but never posted, so here we go my first try. As for your seal you I just order 2 days ago, the 2 CAM oil Seal and the CRANK oil seal from PowerSport Canada Honda dealer and they call me today to pick them up and they were the HONDA seal. I just contacted them and they have 1 left in Montreal. If you would like it let me know ASAP and I will get it and send it to you.
You are right Honda do not make them anymore. Claude from Ottawa. lambert1234@sympatico.ca |

Claude,
I would very much like for you to obtain that second front main seal. I'm sure you & I can work out the details of shipment and the cost of your troubles. This site is fantastic!! for information and parts for these 25 year old motorcycles. I'll send you an e-mail and you can contact me at my new e-mail below. Thanks a bunch & thank you Vic for a fantastic site!!!. As a bit of additonal information, I have gotten a few responses back about potential equivalent replacement seals; one in inch dimensions and a slightly smaller metric seal. We'll see how that pans out. Thanks again! Dennis Price deprice454@comcast.net
