Me too. I started it for a min to make sure belts were on correct and saw a puddle building on the floor. Stupid.

Now that my exhaust is fixed I hear a kind of wine sound coming from the left timIng belt cover, but only on idle. Is it possible I put the belt on to tight? Will it wear in ok? Thoughts?

I can now answer my own question. It's the repro belts. There are lots of threads asking the same question. Seems expensive thin Honda belts are the quiet ones. Mine can whine. I'm not changing them. Again.

I have just replaced mine with QH (Quinton Hazel Automotive Limited ,England)
Part No on box = QTB142
they cost less than half price of the Honda ones
You don't need that special tool if you havent disturbed the camshaft pulley bolts.

The wrong tension according to the manual, too tight results in a whining noise. and too loose a slapping noise against the timing covers.

Be sure to get the timing marks all lined up as you may have to pull the cam pulleys over with a spanner while placing the belt on as they tend to spring back AND IT'S EASY TO GET IT ONE TOOTH OUT,also you set the tension on one belt then turn the engine 360 Degrees to set the other tensioner,lining the timing marks as before the up mark on the Right hand pulley will face down (see the Haynes or Clymer manual.

For information, anyone looking for Quinton Hazel belts now will have to look hard. After something like 80odd years of supplying quality parts to the motor trade, they were bought out, asset stripped and now are in the hands of the Receivers! Very sad.

We used to supply these QH ones for all the four cylinder wings. For quite a few months now, when the QH supply got extremely sporadic, we have supplied belts from FAI Automotive. These are an excellent quality replacement belt made in the USA.

We always have supplies of the belts for 1200s, although we can occasionally run out of the 1000/1100 belts.
