How the H*&% do I get the darn crank pulley off?

I'm doing the poorboy conversion, but cant get the crank pulley bolt off. Just can't seem to be able to make the pulley stay still while I turn it. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys who have done this before might have any tips for me other than kicking it in frustration (not that I would ever do that to my baby)

I used an impact wrench and had no problem. Vic (i think) explains how to put the bike in gear and have someone stand on the brake pedal while you turn. Sorry you're having problems but I'm sure you'll get a bunch of good suggestions. Hold on a bit.

Impact is the way to go, it spins right off.

try a little localized heat in order to soften the loctite on the nut but the impact is the route if it's being ornery, I got mine off without an impact.

have wife or girlfriend sit on bike.
have her stand on rear brake peddle.
remove crank bolt.
thank wife of girlfriend.
works for me...

Sorry to drag up an old post, put I am also having a problem getting the crank bolt off. I tried to change to a high gear, but I can only get it to go into 1st or neutral. Is there a trick to getting it into 5th while on the center stand?

I was having this prob as i've had a 3" pulley on and was upgrading to the 4"pulley (as getting my bike out of the Faro rally was a nightmare and flatterned the battery and had to bump start)
But as i can be working any hour on the bike and no one around i substituted the break pedal assistant for a 50 pound weight hung on the break pedal got the bike into 5 th gear used a bigger wrench and the crank pulley bolt came off easy

run a chain through the wheel/frame, put in high gear, gently pull up against the chain in the wheel/frame/swingarm n get medieval with the I impact gun or breaker bar... n 2'-3' long cheater pipe. hope clutch is good n doesn't slip
