Clicking noise drive train

I have a clicking noise comming from the drive train only when i slow down and get below 20 mph usually with the clutch in. I did just get new tires ant my mechanac told me the drive shaft was rusty and he had a verry hard time getting the rear wheel apart and off. He told me the tire had not been changed for a long time. The bike has 40000 on it and i just got it late last fall. it did not make the noise untill i had the tire work done also he did use the proper grease on the shaft. Thanks.

Sounds like the propeller shaft is misaligned. This often happens when the differential is disconnected from the swing arm. Verify that this is what has happened then try this procedure.
Loosen the axle shaft nut and push it slightly to the right side of the bike. You need to make sure there is no "holding force" on the rear hub and differential assy. Loosen the four bolts that secure the diff to the swing arm. Wiggle the diff to realign it with the drive shaft and tighten the four bolts. Tighten the axle shaft per the manual and road test. The noise should be gone. |
