Panasonic Radio
I need some clarification. What is the type 3 system? Is it the classification of all gl1200 factory radio's, or were there different panasonic radio systems available? :?

I believe the type 3 system had the 4 speaker system and was available on the Ltd Ed in '85 and the SEi in '86. Not sure about the '87 models. The 2 speaker system is the Type 2 panasonic.

More Info should be coming shortly!!

I understand that there is an RM1100 and 1200 series. It looks like the 1200 was used on the SEI/LTD.

GLhonda is correct= I called Sierra about the difference and they said the 1200 series had additional resistors in the unit due to the fuel injection on the LTD and SEI models- I asked what would happen if I were to put a 1100 series on my SEI and the guy replied- well it's a crap shoot- you may get some hiss or feedback thru the system- and you might not -just because of the age of the system ......one will never know until they try it. When I called last year they did not have any 1200 series but he had about 4 of the 1100 series===he wanted $500.00 for one Confusedhock: needless to say that would be an expensive crap shoot-- so I kept the aftermarket one that the PO put on it before I got it Smile

Thanks guys. I got it figured out. I was confused by some of the posts that supposedly had type 3 wiring schematics, with only two speakers, and no "wand" control shown. I was wanting to install the honda cb and couldn't figure out how come the auto volume devices were in different locations and physically different. Thanks again.

Oh, Tim. Did Sierra say if those radio's were refurbished, or just tested "good"?

There may have been differences for the 85 se and 86 se but the radio and cb for the 84-87 was called the type III , the aspencade had two front speakers the se models had two front and two rear
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Tricky- you recon' the guy was full of it ? I think you are right about the difference between front and rear speakers-- is that the main difference from the 1100 series and the 1200 series?
Does any one have an 87 with OEM front and rear speakers? If so does your radio have black buttons for the stations or aluminum ones??

thanks

Hi Angela. The headset microphone is voice activated and mutes the radio and or tape. I don't remember for sure, but I think also the CB. Been a long time since the Aspy has had a cb. I always "burp" before I talk. Somehow, you just never hear the first word of the conversation Smile

I'm not sure that the muting affects the CB, when you talk you don't want to mute. The CB signal cuts out the radio tx and rx and if ether the passenger or driver talk while either the passenger or driver PTT is activated the resulting voices are sent out during tx.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
