speed sensor
My speed is off by about 8mph. I have to go 63 mph on my speedo to go an actual 55 mph. I have the sensor disconnected right now as I am having my tires changed (dunlop elite 3s great tires by the way). Is there anything I can do to improve this so it's more accurate?

There isn't much you can do about it other than changing the size of the tire. Actually it's kind of of a bonus with todays strict law enforcement to have a speedo that helps keep you on the legal side.

Or you could do this:

http://www.procycle-online.com/main/speedo_healer.htm

Personally I just use my GPS it tells me exactly what speed I am doing.

I always wondered why everything was passing me Smile

Too bad they don't make one that works on our 1200's.

I emailed Procycle and then they refered me to the maker of the speedo healer, this is the email I just received:

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your email.

The 84-87 GL1200 is compatible with the SpeedoHealer but a custom SH box and
custom plug-n-go wiring harness is needed.
This is because this bike uses different connector pin-out and different
voltage levels than later models.

We can make the custom SH kit at no extra charge, but it should be ordered
direct from us.
The cost is 84 EUR with shipping included.

If there's interest for a group buy, price can be lower and we can arrange
the sale to go through a US dealer.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Kind Regards,
/Norbert

Evening,

I was reading through the posts first to see if anyone had ever asked this exact question.

I'm off by 4mph @ 65mph. I use my GPS as the benchmark because it matches my car speed exactly (two against three).

I'm only posting again because I want to see if there is any new input since 2007. I always look here first. This forum has always helped me in the past ^Smile^ however with this challenge, the difference in actual speed vs. displayed speed is too much to let go without a little more digging (IMHO).

I'll also look on some other forums and report back here if I find anything.

Regards,
Harry S. %%-

Don't forget that tire size makes a difference in speedo reading therefore a new tire will give one reading and a well worn tire will give a different reading due to the difference in diameter.

At least you got an answer and that's good. They never did reply to my email.
