no Whitewalls but i think i found a great set of tires
well everyone was right no whitewalls to be found anywhere that will handle the weight of the GL1200 but i found what i think is a great set of tires
i have decided on a set of Metzeler-ME 880's Touring-- front is a 130/90H-16 @97.99 and the rear is a 150/90HB-15 @130.99--how does this sound?

Great tires but you might also want to consider a set of Dunlop Elite E3's. They have a lot to offer in the way of performance, ride and durability.

on the front of our 1200 I have a Dunlop narrow white wall off of my HD, unfortunately they do not make that tire in a 15" for the rear

Funny thing about whitewalls, a friend of mine went the image way and bought a Harley, he's always wanted one, and this one has white walls. He asked me how I kept my bike so shiny being 22 years old and I told him "Lemon Pledge"
He said he spends all day polishing but doesnt like the whitewalls because they never really look good for very long.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

absolutely right, they are a pita to keep white, and the "cleaner" tells you to wear gloves and eye protection.... but darned if they don't look real purdy when they are clean

The best way to clean raised white lettering or whitewall tires is with an SOS pad and some warm water.

For those interested I found a whitewall for the 1200 by accident. While on my recent trip I picked up a nail in my nearly new Elite 3 on the rear. I had just over 6000 miles on this tire and it showed little wear. Anyway I was in Rochester NY and got the local dealer on the phone who had a tire, but not an Elite 3. If I wanted to wait a couple of days I could have gotten an E3. He had a Bridgestone in stock for the wing, but it was a whitewall. I asked several times if he was sure it was for a wing, I had never heard of a whitewall for a wing. He assurred me it was correct. I arrived at Cycle Stop in Rochester and saw this was a multi-cycle dealer. Honda, Kawasaki, Yahama on one side and a large Harley dealership on the other side with the service department in the middle. I figured the tire was for a Harley since it was a whitewall. When I got home the other day I checked on line at the Bridgestone site and saw that the Exedra G702 is indeed a direct replacement for the GL1200 rear tire Size 150/90/B15 with a load rating of 872 lbs at 41 PSI. The web site shows this tire a blackwall, but I have a whitewall. Check around and I'll bet if you really want a whitewall someone can get one for you. I prefer my E3, but this had to do and I won't buy another new tire until these wear out.
Remember, No matter where you go...There you are!

Here is where I have ridden my 1984 GL1200I
I completed the lower 48 states in August 2009, riding the whole way with my Dad
