Replace stator w/out removing engine?

I need some help here. I recall Vic posting a few times that he had replaced stators by removing rear wheel, swingarm etc. to gain access to the stator. I've spend 2 hrs. searching on the forum and can't find those posts.

Does anyone else recall him writing that? Any idea where I could locate the posts?

i know i'll get get frowned on by some people but why dont you just do the "poorboy" and forget all those worries abbout ever having electrical problems again unless you havent done the solenoid mod yet

may cost more than the stator replacement but well worth the time and effort,does not require you to be a mechanical genius

My 1200's stator is fine, all 3 of them in fact. I wanted to locate Vic's posts about stator removal because I'm involved in a conversation locally about doing the removal that way.

So my question remains the same: Anyone recall those posts about stator removal via the rear of the bike without removing the engine? I don't think I hallucinated reading those posts but anything is possible. Thanks in advance, DC

I cant remember seeing anything like that.
You would need to remove the gas tank as well and even then removing engine bolts to allow engine to be raised up.
easier to take out the engine. you would still require removal of rad and draining fluids.

My wife and I did our first removal in 6 hours and about the same for the second time.... hence the external alternator.

I remember seeing something like that although I don't think it was Vic who posted the info.. The best I remember is the engine removal procedure was pretty much followed up to the point of sliding the engine enough to allow the stator cover to be removed...

I did see something on the goldwing docs website and they said the same thing....take the engine out or better still do the Poorboy
