Turn signals not working

1985 GL1200 Aspencade - I'll try to describe the issue:

- key "on" or "on with engine running", signal lights are illuminated, solid not flashing.

- select left signal, left side goes out, right side stays illuminated - solid.
- cancel manually by pushing selector switch "in" and signal lights are illuminated, solid not flashing.
- turning the steering head with left selected changes nothing.

- select right signal, right side goes out, left side stays illuminated - solid.
- cancel manually by pushing selector switch "in" and signal lights are illuminated, solid not flashing.
- turning the steering head with right selected changes nothing.

I looked at neoracer's thread about changing to automotive flashers. My bike has no flasher units under the seat. There is one black box with 7 wires - labelled KG27 MG9-A - the wire colors do not seem to correspond to signals...

Where should I look for the flashers?

Has anyone dealt with this same issue and resolved it?

The relays are just behind the handlebars under the false tank
