What the heck is this piece...????
Greetings
First post on this Forum.
I hope someone can help ease my mind on this issue, it's been driving me crazy.
I just bought a 1986 Aspencade last Wednesday, I drove it home from the previous owner (50 miles)
Then took my wife out for a ride Friday evening. We were driving on a 45 mph road in town and all of a sudden I heard this tink-tink-tink of metal bouncing down the street. We circled around to go investigate and found this part on the street. Everything was running fine, so we rode home.

This part could have been on the road, looking like a flattened pop can, and I simply ran over it, but I don't think I would have done that...
I've crawled all over and under the Aspencade and can't see where this piece would have come from.
I did ask this question on another Forum Group and no one could identify it. So I'm hoping someone in this specific GL 1200 group may have a better idea.

Thanks
Gadget Man

It looks like part of your side stand extension. I lost mine the same way you did.

I take that back, I had to go and check. It's the underside cover on your foot peg.

Ding-Ding-Ding.
Bob you win the prize. Thats exactly what it is. I just went out and checked.
And thanks to bs175dths for the exploded parts view, now I know what size bolt to replace it with.
It is pretty flat and won't fit back correctly until I get the correct bend angle back on it.

Thanks Guys.
I knew if I left this out there long enough someone would come up with something.
I'm glad it's only cosmetic and not engine or exhaust related.

I can sleep again.

Thanks

Only one motorcycle design will 'vibrate' exhaust or engine parts off the bike, and your Honda is very smooth. In fact, it Har(d)ley vibrates at all.

Yes, That little turned up "tab" next to the bolt hole, should be bent to keep the bolt from backing out.

I'm going to remove the right side piece so I can go match the bolt and match the bend and get it remounted back onto the left side.

Maybe some Locktite to keep that bolt tight forever. I can't see a reason to ever have to take this piece off the footpeg again.

Wow, after pulling the part from the other side I can see why it was hard to recognise. It had definitely been run over between the time it fell off and the 5 minutes it took me to get back to it. There is quite a bend in this part to get it to wrap around the rubber foot peg.
Then there is the metal nub that will rub on the ground if you ever get the bike leaned over that far. That piece is long gone.

It took awhile to pound, bend and manipulate the piece back to the original shape.
I'm glad its not a high profile piece that can be seen, not that I scratched it all up...but it's not 100% perfect.

Here is a before picture and a shot after some hammer and vise work.
