WHAT TO DO WITH THIS WEBSITE, SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
Thank you ultramidnight. So many people just don't appreciate what goes into building and maintaining a site like this, they think it happens for free and with no effort and that's BS pure and simple. Sometimes I have had to put in days on this site to clear spam and clear other garbage to keep it nice for everyone. They save hundreds of dollars in repairs to their bikes thanks to this site yet they never even look back with even a thank you. That's the sort of thing that just sickens me and makes me want to give up on this. There's a word, reciprocity, and it means basically working with each other so that we both win. Too many guys just come out here and take hard earned info and use it to save themselves some cash at the repair shop, but, they never think to come back and thank this site for the help and the savings that the info here got them. I don't have ads on this site, nor do I have sponsors which can be very annoying, all costs are covered by my personal wallet and the generous donations by members of this site. If you save hundreds of dollars by using info from this site then what's wrong with hitting the donation button and kicking in a few dollars or even pennies to show your appreciation. I'll never get dollar rich from this site, but, at least a few pennies thrown my way once in a while makes it easier to keep me plugging away at my keyboard and helping people to keep their Wings running tops. Don't be shy, hit the donate button https://www.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/webscr...5b311f447e and throw a few pennies in if you can afford it and if you can't afford then just keep on enjoying this site knowing that we're here to help you when you're bucks down.

How much does a website like this cost to run per month?

I still find this site to be invaluable for my 1200 wing. I don't own an 1100 wing but I'm a member at classic goldwings which was set up for 1100 wing owners, now they cover all wings. there is soo much there that covers 1100 wings that I'm glad the info is there for them. I'm very grateful for the info here for our 1200 wings, its in one convenient place, no need to search all over the web. it would be a shame to loose it and just have it out there in cyber world. if you feel the need to sell the forum do so, do whats best for you. if I knew how to run a forum I would certainly buy it. I am a moderator on a couple forums ( GWOF and SBF ) so I know about issues with spam and forum members, its the software side of things on the forum that I'm clueless on

Although I am computer "stupid", I would be willing to sponsor a month/year if it is in my budget! Although I can't help run it, it has helped me in the past, and I would like to pay it forward if possible.

There are fixed costs and variable costs can vary depending on what options you choose for the website such as backup, extra storage, GB's used and server overages, how many users, traffic, administrative help fees, etc., etc. Another hidden cost is removing serious spam that really messes up the site. That simple chore can take days to clear up. And there's all the time involved in getting computer illiterate folks onboard and that can mean many emails sometimes. Then there are those members who insist on personal email replies to questions rather sharing it on the board. And then there are updates and all the problems that go along with the updates, compatibility and otherwise. Marty and I have it under control most of the time, but, sometimes it gets away from both of us and diagnostic detective work begins and ends with a well running site. Then there's the occasional throwing out of rowdy members and that usually turns into an email battle and a minor battle which needs clarification on other sites where they go to vent after getting the boot. It should be so simple as just clicking a few keys, but, it's not. There's more to running a great website than meets the untrained eye. It really is a lot of work sometimes, but, the DONATIONS all help to offset all the tedious garbage involved and allow me to get on with helping people when I can. Just scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the DONATE button and you'll see how easy it is to help out around here in return for good solid information on the upkeep of your Wing.

Hey Vic, overdrive26 down here in north Georgia, and I`m really sorry I haven't stayed in contact the way we had started several years ago. With all the pain you are going through, you may not remember but I had been able to locate a few parts you couldn`t seem to find around your own stomping grounds. I really got a kick out of that, and I wish we could do it again. But it sure did take a long time to get from me to you... mail system I guess. Vic; I`m going to say something that will raise some eyebrows, and make people think the word "sissie" about me. I`m not a sissie and I flat don`t give a damn what people think. In the years I`ve been on this site you have proven what a truly good man you are. Bottom line......I love you Vic... not as a lover or anything even close, but as one man to another, one human to another. Vic, if you have to close this site, then do so knowing you have done your best, and have helped hundreds with things they could never have done without you. Peace My Friend

If you treat your 1200 right, and trust her, she can and will save your butt from a lot of bad scenes. Just believe in her! Mine has several times.

overdrive26 here,
Vic, the other day I responded to your query, and when I looked at it today, I was shocked at the way I worded my reply. I should have said I love the way you have given so much of your time, money, and of your life itself. I feel I`ve made a complete ass of my self, and I do need to say I`m sorry to you and everyone who has read this thread. Never again will I be on this website, with four shots of jack daniels under my belt. I wish you the best.

I have been a member since 2010.
I bought a 1984 Interstate from the son of the late, Jack Elliott, the original owner.
His neighbors tell me, ‘The old man Loved that bike.’
Jack’s son kept the bike for two years after Jack had passed.
The son used starter fluid in the air box and a battery booster to demonstrate how the engine did run.
I surfed the NET and found this site, which, as was mentioned in the thread, is GL1200 specific. There is less to search through to get the answers we are looking for.
I, like many, have been bitten by the economic turn down which hit the country a number of years back.
Specifically, I was terminated from my Aerospace job of 23 years because I was getting paid too much for not having a college degree. I have some college education, but was unable to finish due to family obligations.
My wife and I are determined to get college degrees for our four children so they will not be faced with such an injustice.
To date: my oldest has gone back to college after giving birth to our grandson and kicking her drug-using, pawn-all-the-gold-in-the-house, “I don’t want to work”, dead-beat of a husband out of the house. Another daughter is graduating this May with a business degree. Another daughter is graduating with a degree in Physical Therapy and is going for her Masters, and our son is graduating High School and attending college in the field of Mechanical Engineer/ Computer Science.
My 84I has been INTRUMENTAL in allowing my wife and I to give our children the leg up they will need to be successful in their lives.
I have been unable to donate monies for the invaluable information this site gave me to allow the resurrection of my 84I.
Because of my lack of available funds, I decided to donate in the form of the information this site gave me, and the information I gained through first-hand experience.
To date, tires, brakes, water pump, external alternator, head gaskets, crank main oil seal, cam oil seals, and all the regular maintenance stuff has yielded me nearly 45,000 additional miles for a grand total of 148,000 on this bike.
This site, the family members of this site and the wonderful design of the GL1200 have played a MAJOR role in my children’s financial future.

I will always be in your debt.
I will continue to pass it forward.

My wife and I thank you.
My children thank you.
My grandson thanks you.
enjoying the view from the saddle....... due mainly to the people and information found within this site
