Cam Shaft Leak

A friend of mine purchased a 1986 GL1200 and the cam shaft is leaking and he added Lucas additive to his oil. I guess the reason is that the seals will swell and he believes that will stop the leak. My question is has that been proven to stop leaks? I don't know because the oil mixes with the transmission and I'm not sure any of that is good. Any ones thought on this?

If it is leaking change the seals.

Additives will eventually screw up the clutch

I had to change the seal on the right side just a week ago.

.... what other seals will this additive modified engine oil come into contact with?
The additive is not smart enough to only 'fix' the one seal which is leaking!

As was mentioned, change the seal.

Hopefully no damage has been done to the other seals or clutch plates the additive has come in contact with.....

The seals are still available through the stealer and on-line. (1209-371-003 OIL SEAL (27X43X9))
This seal appears to be used on the GL1000 through the GL1500, from 1976 through 2003.

I replaced my front, main seal without cracking the case by using a dent puller from Harbor Freight.
I installed the new seal with my thumbs to get it started and in straight, then I used a 1/2" socket extension to GENTLY seat the seal.

A new seal stopped the leaking.
