Spark plug wireset...

I have read some of the post's concerning spark plug wire choices and have a couple questions.

I see that many of you have used the taylor wireset TAY-73053.

What I need to know is the two other alternatives I see.

Particularly I have an interest in using the wires made for a 1985 Honda prelude 2.0 seeing that I drive in the desert and not rain (no real concern for water infiltration) are these a direct fit? would these eliminate the need for the end caps at the coil?

Second choice would be a solid bulk wire 8mm. This seems like the cheapest but now aren't you subject to adding connector crimps that may spoil the solid connections?

Has anybody used the prelude wires?

I haven’t used the Prelude wire set but keep this in mind….. the distributor on the Prelude is at one end of the head and so the wire set will have four different lengths of wire.
Our GL’s run off two centrally located coils which means, we have two different lengths of wire (roughly).
I would think two Prelude sets would be required for our GL’s.

Again, I haven’t had a need to replace my wire set, yet, but I would take some measurements, first, on your bike, then at a bone yard.

The boot at the spark plug end of our GL’s is a screw in type and the coil side is held in place with a washer and screw on cap, similar to our air shock manifold, so I don't think we need crimped teminal ends.

Unless your boots are damaged, I lean toward bulk wire.

Your spot on with the prelude wireset as two wires are way to short and I would have to cut off the terminal ends and purchase two sets.

Where I am confused (as I want to try and source locally as bike is now apart) is that when I looked at sets like this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-4040 the inside is not solid core but a conductor wrapped up between sheets of kevlar and it seems to me that when installed it may or may not hit the conductor part of the wire.

Are all wiresets now built like this?

If I use the taylor made from summitt racing the coil side will connect and push onto the male pin in our coil? (without cutting the end off)

Any other thoughts on a local purchase?

You'll need 2 sets of the Prelude wires unless you would like to cut the longer ones.
I ended up going back to Honda wires, they are still available, not discontinued.

I solved my problem by picking up accel #4069 purchased at AZ for $27 and cutting off the ends.

These have the solid stranded inner core that I was looking for and mission completed.

My old wires were original so vast improvement.

Upper radiator hose had a leak so replacing that led me to this.

so you could run twin plug heads on your GL?

If you're looking for just the wires, our local NAPA auto parts store will sell you stranded wires cut to length from a bulk roll.
