Thanks again guys, bs175dths you are completely right. I just read your post now but yesterday I took my battery to be tested and though it showed close to 13 volts it only was putting out 2 amps. Yes it was a cheap battery from batteries plus which I bought to try and start the bike when I first considered buying it from the P.O. I just never experienced a battery totally give up the ghost without any warning. Ordered a new Yuasa AGM last night, always had good luck with them on my other bikes. At least I found out that I can get a free ignition switch from Honda out of all this. Big thanks.

I am glad to be of some assistance as this forum has helped me in my time(s) of need.
On another note, your CX500. The timing chain on these bikes will start to make noise when the guide is worn out. The noise it makes is the timing chain digging a groove in the back of the cylinder block! When you hear this noise coming from the back of the engine, see if it can be remedied by adjusting the tension on the chain. If it can't, the engine will need to come out of the frame as the back engine cover needs to come off in order to gain access to the timing chain guide. Not a difficult job, just time consuming. If you do the work, make sure the motor rotates and does not bind BEFORE you put the engine back into the frame. (don't ask how I know). I have had all flavors of this engine configuration, CX500, CX650, GL500, and GL650. I liked the GL650 the best because of the extra 150cc and the GL for the storage and wind protection. Nice, nimble Touring bike. Just don't sit too far forward on the seat while wearing a pair of shorts or you might end up with burn scars on your knees from touching the hot heads. (again, don't ask)

Yes I am aware of the timing chain tensioner issue on these bikes. It has 22k on it and is nice and quiet, adjusted it at 20k. Yes love these bikes, I also had a 500turbo back in the day.
I did quite a bit of customizing on the cx500 have a look here....... http://www.flickr.com/photos/49063292@N0...736683123/ Just starting a community college course for 3 stage auto painting so I can use all their state of the art equipment to paint it. They also have powder coating equipment. Should be fun. Going with black and silver with a red pinstripe to separate the two.
