Power loss when warmed up to operating temp
Hello- I'm new to this forum, but I'm a 30+ year rider, mechanic, restorer, re-seller, etc. I have a bit of a long story to explain the problem.

First of all, the bike in question is a 1985 GoldWing Limited Edition GL1200 with EFI. 28,000 original miles. This is sort of one of my "children". This is a bike that I used to own and sold it several years ago to a friend. My friend is basically done with this bike and I have the opportunity to buy it back. But it has a problem. When running warm, at operating temperature, it has a severe power loss. Basically runs like 2 cylinders drop out. This bike was in near pristine condition when I sold. Now, not so much. But it's still a complete, running bike that is basically in need of a total restoration. My friend would like to move on to something newer and ask me to either sell it, or part it out. I really don't want to part it out since these are rare and special bikes, but it needs to get fixed before I can sell it. I may buy it from him, just not sure. So, here is what has been done. He had it at a motorcycle shop for several months. They could not get it to do it's thing, until one day it finally did. What they claim is that while it was having it's fit, there continued to be spark to all 4 jugs. So they believe that the EFI brain is failing. At that point, they basically gave up and charged my friend over $600 for well, I'm not sure what. I now have it in my garage and now I can't get it to have a seizure or fit or whatever it does. Just last night, I had it running for well over an hour, up to temp, cooling fan cycling as it should and the thing just sat there and purred. Never missed a beat. I have the faring stripped off, so I was able to poke around at a few things. I put a heat gun on the spark generators to see if they were failing when they get hot and nope, that's not it. I did find many cracked vacuum hoses, which I replaced. Not sure that has anything to do with it either.

NOW, before anyone thinks, loss of compression or stuck valves, consider this; When this problem occurs, you can shut the bike off and IMMEDIATELY re-start it and it once again runs perfect. The plugs look perfect tool. Nice light tan color on the tips. I checked the fuel pressure regulator and it's functioning perfect. Fuel pump is only about a year old and it's an OEM Honda pump. I am suspicious of the injectors. I'm not convinced that it's the EFI brain. Ususally when those go, they just die.

Any idea's anyone?

almost sounds like you are having a problem with a sensor or connector to same at one point or another,one nice thing about the efi units and having the travel computer if while moving you can monitor the instant fuel mileage section on the computer and see what is happening such as mc going lean or rich

do you have a copy of the ltd/sei supp to troubleshoot problems?

might want to edit your location,may be someone near you that could help

What codes is the computer giving you when it acts up? The flashing red LEDs of the computer under the trunk are usually a very acurate source for trouble shooting, mine have been very helpful. look at which lights flash 1 2 3 or 4 and how many times.The flash codes are listed in the manual.
