Repainting front fender, striping & emblem

I recently finished redoing the front fender on my '85 Aspencade and it came out like this:
I painted to match Sandy Beige Metallic/Grace Brown Metallic stock colors since the rest of the bike plastic is in good to excellent condition. The paint was PPG base coat clear coat over Spies Hecker Flexible Epoxy Primer (made for plastics). The hard part here is taking the plastic down to bare as Spies Hecker primer expects to bond with the plastic and may not be compatible with 1985 Honda acrylic. There is more to it than that but I'd encourage you to PM me for that. To summarize painting: only hand sand with fine paper (400 grit or more) - the plastic is soft; make and use a template from a tracing of the two tone meeting area; apply 3M tape striping (I found one very close in color, but slightly narrower) over the clear coat. I put it over the clear since if I had clear coat over it, removing it later would be a real PITA. I refinished the fender emblem using a gold foil from bare-metal (google bare-metal for ordering online) - thanks for the lead Tricky. Forgive my close up photography skills but it came out like this: I painted the emblem with satin black before applying the foil - take your time with plenty of breaks when doing the job. There is a good youtube video that helped with tools you'll need and technique. I also restored the windshield garnish HONDA emblem and it came out like this. While none of these came out as good as new, they were in much better shape AND I got some new tools and experience. Again, if you want more detail, PM me. I wanted to keep the post short (maybe unsuccessfuly) but Tricky did suggest I share my results with the group.

Wildhorse - thanks for the compliment. It helps to keep in mind that it is supposted to a labor of love making your GW more perfect than she is now (accept or ignore her stator issue), so I took my time and did some of the work during winter months and the results proved it a worthy effort.
BTW - how do you cruise the South and Southwest without seeing Arkansas - you got something against Razorbacks??? Joe - I didn't track my time (see labor of love above). Trimming the gold foil was tedious - especially doing the wings on the fender emblem. I did most of that work early in the day when I was fresh and relaxed - watch your coffee intake - you'll need a steady hand and a sharp blade.

From Florida to Texas via Houston... Toured Texas with a side trip to Arizona to pick up my new trailer. Hit Oklahoma while running from Abilene to Dallas then out from Houston back to Florida.
Did Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee last month. Leaving in the next couple days going to spend a month in New Mexico, thinking of taking a side trip to be sure I get Arkansas in there while out on this next tour!
