Is there a aftermarket source and / or key blank that could be gotten at Walmart or Home Depot? Or must you go to a locksmith or dealer for an extra key?

I went to Ace Hardware and they had some in stock. I needed copies made for keyed parts I was selling, so they ordered more in. I had to wait a couple weeks, but the dealer charges about $5 per key, so for 8 keys, I saved quite a bit. So they are out there, but it seems there are less businesses that make keys compared to years ago.

Ace Hardware in Illinois carries the blanks and charges less than $5 per key.

just so u know the key blank numbers are:

84-85 Ilco # HD74
86-87 Ilco # HD 75

At the risk of TMI, any year Goldwing 84-87 (actually 1977-2000) can be either blank. All depends on the key code. Key codes A00-B99 use HD74 and codes C00-D99 use HD75. Also blank manufactures other than Ilco, may or may not use the same key blank numbers.

"IF" you have a key and can find a hardware store locally that has the blanks, that is your least expensive option. However if your key is well worn, you are making a "duplicate" well worn key. But still a better option than losing your 'only' key and having to seek out a locksmith that can cut one for you, "for a price."

I've seen that site and others, but works out pricy (at least to me.) $4 to $9 for a blank + $4 to $8 for shipping. So $8 to $17 depending on the head type you want and where (how) it is to be shipped. And then it's a blank that you still have to (have $$?) cut to fit your lock(s).

All depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are.

I bought original blanks on ebay then took them to Ace to have keys cut... Cost a bit more but worth it to have NOS keys
