Choke cable replacement

Does anyone have step by step directions on how to replace the choke cable on an 85 Interstate? I can't find any info in my manual.

I don't have the Clymers manual. I have a service manual it doesn't spell it out very clearly.

The Clymers is just a re-wording of the service manual. the hard part as far as I can see is getting to the end connected to the carbs, once you have that then you tape the new cable to the old cable and work it back up through. It says to take off all kinds of stuff but I would just find the end on the carbs (which is on the front of the bank) then follow it as I worked it back through till I got to the control

I've read you can unbolt the carbs and shift them to the left to unbolt the choke cable. What else has to come off to do this?

Remove left lower and take control apart on handlebar. Take off the false tank and air filter down to the plenum, manifolds loose at heads, pull small tubes loose from heads, and move entire carb unit as far left as you can. Remove cable at handlebar. Remove cable clamp at carbs and fish cable end out of socket at carbs. Tape end of new cable to lower end of old cable and gently work it up through where the current cable runs. Once you get it run go in reverse and check for kinking when using the choke. Also check your throttle cables and make sure they are OK after getting carbs back in place.

I think I included everything I did when I replaced mine last year! Just take your time. The worst part for me was getting the cable hooked back up to the carbs. Took a few tries to get it into the socket and getting the cable clamp screwed back in. Not hard just cumbersome for my big hands.
