Water Pump

I think I have a water pump leak. I have water dripping from the center of my engine. How tough is this to replace? Where is the best place to purchase a pump?

I found the items I needed on eBay. I made sure the water pump was OE Honda. We'll see how it goes when all the parts get here.

I don't think it's too tough a job. Be sure to get a new gasket too.

Like any job, it can be done, you just need the time, space and parts.
There are a number of 'gaskets' needed to do the job once. There are flat, paper gaskets, and a number of 'o-ring' gaskets.
Don't be cheap on the quality of the o-rings.
If possible, go OEM or known better quality.

I vaguely remember reading at this website of a poor quality o-ring or a pinched o-ring causing a mixture of oil and water.

Since I commute with my bike, I like having all necessary parts in house and ready to go. This will minimize my down time.

I bought the gasket set from Georgefix on EBay he sells quality stuff. I'll let you know how it goes.

When replacing the O rings at the water pump use either Vaseline or lard to lubricate. Open the collars when installing them they are split so you can do it with an exacto knife or similar.
Make sure you install the gear selector correctly.

I used to use Vaseline until I had a discussion with a heavy equipment mechanic who works with O ring installation in is daily work. He told me they preferred to use Lard as it is a greasy animal fat rather than a petroleum based lubricant, although most of today's O rings might be better quality it would be safer to use a none petroleum based Lube and it is usually found in the wife's fridge...... (providing she isn't too health conscious)

Dielectric grease Petroleum oil and nonelectrically conductive thickener/lubricant

Thanks for clarifying --- I wrote 'gasket' but meant O-ring.

I got the front cover off last night. The water pump was shot. I spent more time scraping old gasket material than pulling it apart. While I'm in there I going to replace the thermostat, hoses and rad. cap. Good price on these items from RockAuto. The gasket set I ordered from EBay has more o-rings that I pulled off. I wonder if these are for the coolant pipes and thermostat cover. Here is the link for the kit I ordered.

No extra o-orings. It's a little unnerving when you pop the cover back on hoping all lines up correctly. I guess I'll find out when I add the oil and water in. I'm getting my radiator cleaned out while I have it apart.

Everything back together and no leaks. Now I just have to replace my choke cable. My bike doesn't want to get ridden this summer.
