clutch resevoir

I was out for a ride and about 10 miles from home.
I started having a problem shifting. Luckily I pulled into a service station that sold brake fluid. But only Dot 3. I only needed about to refill the resevoir 1/2 of the way to top it off to get it to shift ok again. My question is should I drain the system and refill with Dot 4 or is Dot 3 ok to use? Thanks Gene
