Purple Heart Recipient - alfie1eye - 04-03-2016

[attachment=3422][attachment=3422]Hi, I am hoping that some one can help me locate a soldier who served with the 9th infantry division in 1968 during the Vietnam war. I have had his picture airbrushed onto the false tank lid on my Goldwing & it has created a lot of interest as it is quite a poignant pose. The picture was taken by a war correspondent with the caption he had been awarded three Purple Hearts. I have looked on the Purple Heart registry but because I do not have a name I am having trouble finding out who he is.
All the air brush artwork on my 1200 is actual footage from the Vietnam era.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, it would be nice to put a name to face.
Thank you.

Hopefully the picture has come up on the original post.
According to the write up this was taken at Tan An Vietnam 1968.

Not seeing the picture here unless it is your profile pic.

Have you shared it around any american legions or VFW s? Might be a place to start ....

Welcome btw

Yes the photos should be in my profile, I will check I have put the two photos I mentioned correctly.
To date I have contacted the 9th infantry division forum, facebook & now the Purple Heart Riders, I have also looked on various lists of Purple Heart Recipients through the internet & had some contact with Vets of that division who highlighted the problem that the government of the time would not recognise that some soldiers had been awarded this medal thus they do not receive due monetary benefits, indeed I found the name of a veteran of that division who had been wounded three times but his three purple hearts are not recognised, a sad tale & unfortunately he wasn't the guy in the photo but he has forwarded my details to his comrades.

Hi, how do I put photos on? I seem to have added two pictures on to my profile which is the airbrushed picture of the soldier I would like the name for. The other photo is the true picture. Thanks

When I click on either one of the pictures in your original post, the enlarged picture comes up perfectly.
It might be of some assistance to contact The Patriot Guard Riders, I don't know if they can help, but maybe.

Thanks Dave, I have recently contacted the Purple Heart register & they will look into it as well, I didn't think to contact the Patriot Guard so I shall send the details over to them as well.
I do admire the work they do for Vets & for military personnel, especially those returning home from overseas duties, here in the Uk it happens very rarely though we do get asked to accompany downed Bikers as funeral escorts.
