Fuel Pump Noise Revised - mark4Jesus - 07-21-2013
As others have posted, my fuel pump is clicking loudly. Bought the bike this past Wednesday. Found a video on youtube where a guy takes the top off of the fuel pump and cleans the contacts on the pump. Anyone ever try this.

I had a similar problem and considered cleaning the contacts but my pump was leaking out the electrical plug so I just replaced it with a known working, used one from a bike with less than 40,000 miles.
I did take it apart and determined, cleaning the contacts could work, extending its life use.
If you are planning on replacing the pump, there isn't any reason not to try cleaning the contacts.
You could replace the pump, clean the contacts and test the old pump, and have a backup part.
If my old pump wasn't a leaker, I would have tried it.
BTW, I also am sold on the Shinko Tour Master tire. I can't believe the performance/price of these tires.
Try anything at least once.

Mine isn't leaking, just clicking! I may wait until I get another one before I try operating, just in case the patient dies. I believe I will look for a used first. Thanks for the info.

The pump may last, but the clicking just bugged me. I ordered an OEM fuel pump from the local Honda dealer (Surprised they were able to get one), $185, tax included. Installed it Tuesday night and rode it yesterday and today and here are my observations:
1. At idle the clicking was occurring approx. twice a second and I could feel the pump "hit". That is what I will call the internal tap that I could feel when it clicked.
2. At idle the new pump was, of course, quiet. No clicking whatsoever. The new pump "hit" about once every three seconds. The "hit" felt exactly the same as what the old pump was doing.
3. It now idles smoother that before. The throttle response and acceleration are noticeably quicker. Engine sounds much smoother at cruise.
Note: I changed the filter last week and noticed no difference in pump or engine response.
Conclusion: The pump was working and may continue to work for a long time. (Keeping it for a spare) However, performance was affected. Not sure about any difference in mileage, I just filled it up tonight.
Thanks to all who helped me. I did consider getting the Prelude pump, but wanted to keep the bike looking stock.
