Ignition Coils
Does anyone know of any auto coils that will work for a 85 Aspencade?

I have 1987 GL1200 Aspencade, and I want to replace with new Accel coils. Does anyone know if they are 3.0 or 0.7 olms? Accel shows 3.0 for everything through 85, but not 87. I have same problem with wing loosing cylinder after rain or washing, and going to check weep holes as well. But, I have decided to replace coils, wires, and make sure I have problem fixed. Coils I have in bike now are original, and I think better coils can't hurt. Thank you guys for all he help, I have learned so much from this site.

besides cleaning out the drain holes in the head your problem may be that the sparkplug caps and wires need changing too, sparying out the sparkplug area when washing is definitely not a recommended procedure

I have replaced with new wire and NGK caps, and this is about the time my problem began. I tore bike down and repainted and customized it a bit. While I had it tore down, replaced air filter, fuel filter, new spark plug wires, caps, and plugs. Runs great.......until caught in rain, then I loose a cylinder. I drove in a down pour before I repainted and customized, never missed a lick! Going to check weep holes, but I still need correct ohm for coils, (3.0, 0.7, ?) Thanks!

cant recall where i saw it but i think your looking for 3.0 ohm coils
if you didn't have a problem before the wire etc change,i would resolve those problems before changing out the coils, whatever is causing the spark problem would not be resolved by changing out the coils
try spraying a water or windex mist in a dark area around spark plug area

any chance you have a small crack in the sparkplug insulator ? also check that water isn't entering the ngk cap because of a bad seal at that area

Yes, It does sound like water is creating a short..I always put a dab of dielectric grease on my plugs..helps keep moisture out of them. But I also have changed out my plug wires with new 7 mm wires, use NGK Insulated plug boots and Iridium plugs. The guy I bought the bike from had issues with it not firing on a cpl cylinders after it rained or he washed it..but since I changed those things..never had a problem.
